at the jazz program
of Vancouver's Capilano
College, the 3, 20 something's
known as the october
trio have developed
what has been described
as 'a strong and beautiful
voice', built on a musical
relationship that has
seen the band take to
the stage month after
month for 3 years in
city's throughout the
west coast of Canada
in order to developed
a unique but classic
sound they can call
there own.

2006, the october trio
served notice that it’s
a band ready to make
an imprint on the Canadian
jazz
scene when it snagged
the Galaxie Rising Stars
Award at the 2006 TD
Canada Trust Vancouver
International Jazz Festival
last summer. An exciting
Vancouver- based group,
the young members of
this trio have been
heralded as "among
the city’s most
creative musicians"
by the Vancouver International
Jazz Festival. Their
acoustic jazz explores
the boundaries of the
saxophone-led trio tradition
while creating a sound
all their own. With
Evan Arntzen (saxophones),
Josh Cole (bass), and
Dan Gaucher (drums),
the ensemble has recently
released a new CD co-
produced with Juno Award-winner
Brad Turner called Day
In (Cellar Live). Highlighting
a broad musical spectrum
from the most intimate,
subtle renderings to
blistering grooves,
Day In is a solid debut
for this energetic up-and-coming
band.
"One
of the most exciting
new Vancouver-based
groups, the members
of this remarkable trio
are among the city's
most creative musicians.
The october trio's acoustic
jazz explores the boundaries
of the saxophone-lead
trio traditions while
creating a future all
their own. Beautiful
music by three emerging
stars set to put there
