BRANDI DISTERHEFT: BIOGRAPHY

“SHE HAS THE SAME LOPE OR RHYTHMICAL PULSE AS MY LATE BASSIST, RAY BROWN. SHE IS WHAT WE CALL SERIOUS.” - OSCAR PETERSON

Jazz bassist Brandi Disterheft will stamp her name all over the next decade. She’s already jammed her CV with concerts at the Vienna Jazz Festival, Mary Lou Williams Jazz Festival, Chicago’s Ravinia Jazz Festival, Montreal International Jazz Festival, and Carnegie Hall.

Releasing her new album simply titled DEBUT, fiery, young bassist Brandi Disterheft performs swinging originals with influences from Mingus to Bjork, combining touches of lush atmospheres with lively grooves. A suite of nine original songs, Debut has received a Juno nomination.

A native of North Vancouver, this “up and coming artist” whose career began performing in her teens with her mother, jazz pianist Fran Jare, has since studied with jazz legends Neils Henning Orsted Pederson, Rufus Reid, James Moody and Danilo Perez.

Opening for top acts including Diana Krall, Pharoah Saunders, and Nicholas Payton, and performing as a featured soloist with the Canada Pops Orchestra at age 21, Brandi has earned both critical acclaim and the title “Rising Star” for her charismatic performances. “Her music is picturesque and enticing…as she grabs the blues, dips into bebop, lays down a cool ballad…and will even have the listener dancing!” JerryD’Souza, Allaboutjazz.com

Following the success of her 2007 National Tour, Brandi plans to perform in Europe in 2008.
